MegaGroup is currently building a new European Distribution Centre (EDC) in Veghel, the Netherlands. All customers in West Europe will be served from this EDC as of 2013. One of the EDC's special features is that it will be heated using environmentally friendly geothermal energy. MegaGroup's own products will as much as possible be used for this purpose.
Construction of the EDC commenced in mid-March. During the past two weeks a total of 375 probes were drilled down into the ground, each to a depth of 19 metres. The heat that will rise via these probes will serve as input for the building's 3 heat pumps. These heat pumps will be concatenated and collectively supply 180 kW of energy. This energy will be used for heating the floors throughout the building. Conventional heating can be used to supply additional heat when necessary. Jacky Geelen, Commercial Director at Bosta Holland (group company of MegaGroup): "We consider it important to use our own products as part of the construction whenever possible. We stand behind our products and this provides us with a valuable business case that we can use as a basis for better advising our customers."
Geothermal energy makes use of natural heat extracted from the earth. This makes it an environmentally friendly way of heating. Furthermore, it is an energy efficient method of extracting energy. Up until now geothermal energy was primarily extracted in volcanic regions and regions with natural geysers, such as Iceland. However, companies and municipalities in the Netherlands are increasingly recognising the benefits of geothermal energy as well.
The new distribution centre will cover an area of 11,000 m2 and will have 18,000 pallet spaces and 10 loading docks. In addition, there is a large covered outside space with another 3,300 m2 of storage space. A comprehensive new and modern warehousing layout will ensure that order processing will be state-of-the-art. The EDC is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2013.
MegaGroup is a successful and fast growing network of commercial enterprises engaged in water engineering in 14 European countries. MegaGroup has major growth ambitions and therefore continues to invest in the future. This is why the Group is currently constructing a modern EDC. Veghel, the Netherlands, November 2012 - MegaGroup Trade, a technical wholesale company selling components for water transport systems, will establish a European Distribution Center in Veghel, in the south of the Netherlands. According to MegaGroup this step is necessary for the future growth of the company. The Distribution Center is targeted to be operational at the end of 2013. From here customers in North-West Europe will be supplied directly. The customers in this part of Europe will be supplied faster and are offered a much broader assortment by centralizing the stock and distribution.
Being established in 1943, MegaGroup has grown into a network of 24 outlets in 14 European countries, sourcing mainly in Southern-Europe and China. The Group has been steadily and successfully developing into a company of over 400 employees. Now the Group is preparing itself for a new era and massive change. Anton van Daalwijk, CEO of the Group, about this change: ‘In economic difficult times we choose consciously to invest. Our customers have to fight for position day by day, and we’d like to help by supplying them faster and more reliable. For this reason we decided to build a central warehouse.’
Kurt van Osta, Group Supply Chain Manager, clarifies the choice of Veghel as a location for the new warehouse: “We made extensive calculations to decide on the ideal location for supplying directly to customers in Germany, the Netherlands, Beglium, France and UK. The center of gravity appeared to be close to Veghel. As we have been located for many years here with two outlets, the final choice was easy. The existing offices in the respective countries will operate as sales offices."
Building the new Distribution Center will start on short notice and is to be completed by the end of 2013. The new Distribution center will contain a surface of 11.000 m2 with 18.000 pallet locations and 10 loading docks. The outside terrain contains 3.300m2 of covered space. A new and very modern warehouse set-up will guaranty a state-of-the-art dispatch of orders.
Supported by the substantial investments in the new building, the MegaGroup expects to continue growing strongly across Europe. ‘Doing nothing in these challenging times is not an option. Only those with a clear vision and strong entrepreneurship are there to stay. We are absolutely convinced that this investment pays for itself because we will be able to serve our customers faster and better. And that is exactly what is requested by those markets where we are present’, according to CEO Van Daalwijk.
